Yes, you read that right. Recently, it has been widely discussed that Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, currently serving as the Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), has revealed his grand plan to develop an Indonesian version of artificial intelligence models like DeepSeek or ChatGPT.
As reported by bisnis.com, Luhut emphasized that Indonesia does not want to be a mere spectator in the era of digital disruption, especially in the advancement of artificial intelligence or AI.
Additionally, as cited from CNBC Indonesia, the Chairman of the National Economic Council stated that this project is already underway and will soon be presented to the President. Several young talents have already been recruited to the AI development team.
Similar to ChatGPT and other AI models, Luhut mentioned that the Indonesian AI will be capable of understanding both English and Indonesian. He also stressed that this AI technology is part of the broader digitalization efforts to enhance national efficiency.
Although not many technical details have been disclosed, this plan clearly demonstrates the government’s seriousness in developing domestic AI technology. If successful, Indonesia could have its own AI model and potentially compete on a global scale.
This is undoubtedly a positive development that deserves our support, especially when it comes to advancing local technology. Hopefully, the government’s plan will proceed smoothly, and within the next two weeks, we can witness the results of this state-owned artificial intelligence technology.
