Microsoft has been utilizing the Adobe engine in its PDF viewer within Microsoft Edge for some time now. Thanks to the collaboration between Microsoft and Adobe, the PDF Viewer in Edge has seen significant enhancements and additional features.
Initially, the implementation of the Adobe Engine was only available to general users, with business users or managed devices having the option to opt out of this change.
However, Microsoft recently announced its plan to mandate the use of the Adobe Engine in the PDF viewer for all users, including businesses.

According to the official Microsoft page, starting September 2025, the Adobe PDF Engine will become the default PDF Reader in Edge. The legacy engine will be phased out by early 2026.
This means that not only general users will be required to use the Adobe Acrobat PDF Engine in Edge, but business users and managed devices will also adopt the same technology, regardless of company preferences.
