Ever encountered a situation where the storage size displayed in This PC File Explorer doesn’t match your device’s specifications? For instance, my HP Envy 13 has a 500 GB SSD, but only 300 GB appears on Drive C. Where did the remaining 200 GB go?
This could be due to an unformatted partition. To utilize the remaining storage, manual partition formatting is required.
Here’s a quick guide by dgdig on How to Format a Partition in Windows 11.
Step 1. First, open Disk Management > right-click the Start Menu > then select Disk Management.
Step 2. Next, locate the black-colored partition marked as unallocated.
Step 3. To begin formatting, right-click > New Simple Volume.
Then, click Next.
Click Next again.
Select a Drive letter. If only Drive C is available, choose D or another option as desired.
Adjust the Volume label and ensure perform a quick format is active.
Click Finish, and you’re done.
The new partition is now ready for use, as shown in this example.
