Recently, it was reported that uBlock Origin Forced to Shut Down on Google Chrome as Chrome is phasing out support for Manifest V2 extensions, replacing them with Manifest V3.
Following Google’s lead, Microsoft Edge, which is also Chromium-based, seems to be adopting a similar approach. Through the latest Edge Canary update, Microsoft has started disabling Manifest V2 extensions, displaying the message “This extension is no longer supported. Microsoft Edge recommends that you remove it”.
Apart from uBlock Origin, other extensions still utilizing Manifest V2 technology will face the same issue, such as Dark Reader and Autoplay Stopper, as shown in the image above.

With this change, users may need to switch to alternative browsers that still support Manifest V2 technology. As previously reported, Manifest V3 significantly reduces the effectiveness of ad-blocking extensions compared to Manifest V2.
As mentioned in earlier discussions, a viable alternative for those wishing to continue using uBlock Origin is to switch to non-Chromium-based browsers like Firefox or similar alternatives such as Zen Browser.
