Microsoft Explains Reasons for Shutting Down Microsoft Defender VPN

As previously reported, Microsoft has officially sent an email to Microsoft 365 customers, informing them that the Privacy Protection feature will be discontinued on February 28, 2025.
At the time, they provided a reason, stating that the decision to terminate the VPN service was due to their focus on investing in new areas that better align with user needs.
In other words, starting February 28, 2025, Microsoft Defender VPN will no longer function on Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS, Android, and iOS.

Similar to previous statements, Microsoft has reiterated that they “routinely evaluate the usage and effectiveness of their features to invest in new areas that better meet customer needs, and the company remains committed to safeguarding the online security of its users.”

The primary reason is clearly the lack of user attention, but another factor is Microsoft’s focus on Windows 11 and other platforms they are developing, including Copilot and their AI advancements. This has left Defender VPN without regular updates, resulting in numerous bugs.
