This year isn’t just marking the end of Windows 10; Microsoft is also discontinuing several other products, including OneNote for Windows 10.
According to the Microsoft Message Center for Microsoft 365, OneNote for Windows 10 will be discontinued. By October 14, 2025, Microsoft will terminate support for OneNote, and the application will no longer receive new features or security updates. Users are strongly advised to migrate to the OneNote for Windows desktop app, which is part of Microsoft 365.

If you’re confused about which version of OneNote to use, as discussed in a separate article: There Are Two OneNote Apps in the Microsoft Store, Which One Should You Choose, starting this October, you won’t have to worry anymore. Microsoft will only support one standalone version of OneNote—the OneNote for Windows app.

Although there are still about six months until full support ends, Microsoft is reportedly planning to nudge users with update prompts starting July 2025, either through banners or other notifications.
Additionally, beginning June 2025, the synchronization performance of the app will be intentionally slowed down, encouraging users to switch from OneNote for Windows 10 to OneNote for Windows.
If you’re currently using OneNote for Windows 10, upgrade to the latest version now. Rest assured, as long as you stay logged into the same Microsoft account, all your data and notes from OneNote for Windows 10 will remain accessible in the new OneNote for Windows app.
