As previously reported a few weeks ago, through the release of Windows 11 build 22635.4805 for Beta Insider users, there’s an interesting aspect that stands out in this update: the enhancement of the snap feature within the system.
This improvement focuses on the snap functionality, enabling it to interact seamlessly with sharing components.
As shown in the image above, simply drag a file to the top area of the screen, and options to share it via Outlook, WhatsApp, or other platforms will appear.
Here’s a bit of additional info: essentially, this feature operates similarly to right-clicking > share via the Context Menu, but it’s designed to be faster, eliminating the need for extra mouse or touchpad clicks. For touchscreen device users, this is likely to be an appealing option.
According to recent leaks, this feature is currently being tested by more Insider Dev and Beta users through the KB5052078 update. However, if you haven’t received the feature yet and are eager to try it, you can activate it using specific feature IDs with vivetool, as usual:
Overall, this is undoubtedly an exciting enhancement, especially for touchscreen users, as simply dragging a file allows for instant sharing.
Regarding file transfers, I’ve personally been using the third-party app LocalSend actively because, aside from enabling fast file transfers over a local network, it’s cross-platform and even available on Linux, which I use.
