People App Returns to Windows 11: Enhanced Features and User Experience

As previously rumored in 2024, Microsoft aimed to introduce People and File Search applications, designed to simplify contact discovery. These tools would offer features like a contact list, individual contact views, and search capabilities to find other users seamlessly.
Indeed, these applications resemble the Windows 10 People app but with notable enhancements. Surprisingly, Microsoft has now officially announced the availability of these new apps on their official platform.

Two new applications were unveiled today: People and File Search. The People app acts as a companion tool, enabling users to learn about contacts within their organization and access relevant details about each individual.
Users can view profile cards, organizational charts, send Teams messages without switching apps, and search for colleagues by role, department, location, or project. Notably, the app features a compact layout that can be quickly accessed via its taskbar icon.

Next is the File Search app, another Microsoft 365 companion. It allows users to locate recently opened files, search files by content, filter them by type, and more.
The app also supports file previews, ensuring users share the correct documents with confidence.

The People app streamlines finding contacts, while File Search serves as a portal for quick Microsoft 365 file retrieval. Both tools are set to significantly enhance productivity.
However, it’s important to note that while People and File Search are now available for Windows 11 users, access is limited. These apps require Microsoft 365 desktop, participation in the Microsoft 365 Insider (Beta Channel) program, and a Microsoft 365 business subscription (Enterprise or Business Edition).
In essence, these features cater primarily to business users, meaning regular or home users won’t have access to them.
