PowerToys has emerged as a highly beneficial tool for many users, primarily due to its array of practical features. Its utility has further increased since Microsoft made it Open Source, allowing a broader community to contribute to and enhance the application.
Recently, there has been news about PowerToys introducing an Advanced Paste feature. This functionality essentially enables users to perform more sophisticated paste operations compared to standard ones. Additionally, it will allow users to transcode media files into various other formats.
In essence, this means you can convert media files, such as turning a video file into an audio file, while retaining the bitrate, metadata, and other essential details.

As shown in the image shared above (via the account @ClintRutkas on X), the Advanced Paste feature will also let users undo actions, which will be particularly useful for long-running tasks.
According to a pull request on GitHub, the Advanced Paste module is expected to be available in the next PowerToys update, version 0.89, and is likely to be released in February 2025.
With this feature, users can paste with greater flexibility, not just transferring content but also transforming it as per their preferences. If you frequently convert media from video to audio or vice versa, you won’t need additional converter tools since PowerToys will handle it directly on your device.
