A few weeks ago, it was reported that Microsoft had removed the clock section from the Windows 10 calendar in the Taskbar. According to Microsoft, exposing seconds through the GUI negatively impacts performance, as the operating system would need to spend extra time updating keys, and “periodic activity would prevent the CPU from entering a low-power state.”
As a result, they removed this feature in Windows 10, as shown in the following image.
However, there’s an interesting new development. Rumors suggest that Microsoft might actually add a clock section to the notification center, or calendar, in Windows 11.

As noted by PhantomOfEarth on X in a preview version of Windows 11, there’s a reference to the option “Show time in Notification Center.”
Of course, this remains a rumor for now, as Microsoft has not officially confirmed it. Additionally, it seems illogical to reintroduce a feature that was removed from Windows 10 just two weeks ago.
Moreover, adding a large clock to the calendar or notification center in Windows 11 might not align well with the OS’s simple and compact design. However, if this feature does make a comeback, it will certainly be an interesting topic for further discussion.
