A few weeks ago, TikTok became a hot topic as the social media platform was banned in the United States. All access was revoked, and its availability on the App Store and Google Play Store began to be removed.
Interestingly, the ban lasted only one night, as the next day, TikTok was back online in the United States, allowing users who had bid farewell to reconnect with their fans. The app even displayed a message saying “Welcome back” and praised Donald Trump for restoring their services in the U.S. region.
However, TikTok’s availability on several App Stores remains uncertain, leaving users who deleted the app thinking it would no longer functional with no choice but to manually download the APK file (for Android) or use a VPN to download it from the App Store.
Approximately four weeks have passed since the U.S. government first announced the ban on TikTok and its removal from the App Store platform. The app has now been reinstated after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Apple stating that the ban would not be enforced immediately.
According to Bloomberg, companies have also restored other apps owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance — the video editor CapCut and the social media app Lemon8 — which they had removed to comply with existing laws.
In addition to Apple, Google has also reinstated TikTok on its Play Store, enabling users to download and update the app directly from the Google Play Store.
But will TikTok face another ban in the United States? Only time will tell, as there has been no further update on the decision regarding the legislation requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to a non-Chinese-owned entity by January 19, 2025.
