As someone who closely monitors Microsoft’s efforts to release new features for both the Windows operating system and its various services, it’s often observed that India, sometimes referred to as Bharat, receives these updates faster than Indonesia.
This isn’t exclusive to India, though. Microsoft typically rolls out new Windows features gradually across different regions to test stability and performance before a global release. However, India often gets priority due to several factors, which is why many tech portals discussing Microsoft’s developments are headquartered there.
India boasts the world’s largest population, with Google data indicating approximately 1.443 billion people, compared to Indonesia’s population of around 278.7 million.
This significant population difference is a key reason why Microsoft prioritizes India for early feature releases over Indonesia.
Why not China? Despite having the second-largest population globally, Microsoft, headquartered in the United States, often treads carefully regarding China. Additionally, China has policies that sometimes restrict the use of Western technologies.
Microsoft has several official offices in India, though not standalone retail stores.
Besides Mumbai, Microsoft operates offices in Pune, Delhi, and other cities. The addresses can be found on the Microsoft India contact page.
In contrast, Indonesia lacks official Microsoft retail stores, and authorized resellers are rare, often selling products at high prices. While India has multiple offices, Indonesia only has one in Jakarta.
India’s technological infrastructure is highly advanced, even surpassing Indonesia in certain sectors.
The country hosts numerous tech hubs, with Bengaluru often called the Silicon Valley of India. Hyderabad and Pune also attract major tech companies and startups.
According to an article discussing the Global Internet Performance Report Early 2025: Indonesia Still Lagging, India ranks higher than Indonesia. This further justifies why Microsoft releases new features faster in India, given its superior infrastructure and population size.

While India is currently recognized for its robust tech infrastructure, encouraging faster Microsoft feature rollouts, Indonesia is also making strides in strengthening its tech sector. Efforts include expanding high-speed internet networks, improving tech accessibility, and supporting local startups. In the future, we may see more Microsoft Stores and offices across Indonesia, not just in Jakarta.
